Focus of Defense and Major Picks

At the top of the Eagles' intent to draft was defense. They traded up in the first round to nab Alabama linebacker Jihaad Campbell at No. 31. Campbell is touted to be a versatile and athletic prospect capable of contributing instantly in multiple defensive fronts.

Then, at No. 64 overall in the second round, Philadelphia took Texas safety Andrew Mukuba. Mukuba's coverage skills and tackle are exactly what the secondary needs. The Round 4 pick, Ty Robinson(No. 111) from Nebraska, adds size and strength, but some analysts were mixed on the pick.

The Eagles then added more help to the defense with their fifth-round pick (No. 161), taking linebacker Smael Mondon Jr. from Georgia, and their sixth-round pick (No. 209), taking outside linebacker Antwaun Powell-Ryland from Virginia Tech. Powell-Ryland specifically was an elite pass-rusher who notched 16 sacks during his senior year.

Offensive Additions and Depth

All the attention may have been on the defense, but the Eagles added offensive depth too. In the sixth, they took Syracuse QB Kyle McCord (No. 181 overall), who led the FBS and set an ACC record with 4,779 passing yards in 2024. Philadelphia added offensive line depth with the selections of Boston College center Drew Kendall (No. 168), Michigan tackle Myles Hinton (No. 191), and Texas tackle Cameron Williams (No. 207).

In-Season Trades and Draft Positioning

The Eagles kept busy during the draft, making a handful of trade moves to maximize the selections at their disposal. In particular, they traded with the Kansas City Chiefs for the No. 31 overall pick, giving up their No. 32 overall pick and a fifth-rounder. They also moved into the second round with other trades, as well as trading down with the Jets and Chargers to add even more mid-to-late-round picks.

Draft Grades and Analyst Reactions

Several analysts praised the Eagles for what they did in the draft. These assessments emphasize the team's ability to check essential boxes while bringing in significant talent value throughout the draft.

Looking Ahead

This Eagles 2025 draft class strikes the right balance between addressing needs and future-building. Showcasing an obvious focus on strengthening defensive performance and bringing in athletic and versatile talent for all positions, Philadelphia remains committed to continued competitiveness. The Eagles aren't just getting their squad ready to compete for the NFL title next season — they're setting themselves up for sustained success by bringing in young, high-upside players in the mix. With Howie Roseman at the helm, the franchise remains committed to remaining two steps ahead of the curve and keeping Philadelphia a premier franchise in the NFL.
