As part of the major drive aimed at addressing the severe dearth of skilled HGV drivers in the United Kingdom (UK), HGVT has partnered with MKM Building Supplies and the government’s Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGV) Skills Bootcampto produce over 50 drivers. This grand plan will help trainparticipants all that they need to know in order to be able to safely operate Class 2 HGVs, given the current need within the logistics and construction industries.
The partnership depicts the HGVT’s focus on innovation and professionalism in the training of drivers. Fully funded by the Government’s Skills Bootcamp, this programme fast tracks learners and equips them within weeks to become competent Class 2 HGV drivers. This initiative not only builds the workforce but also improves the careers of employees in the HGV sector.
Gary Benardout, CEO of HGVT highlights the importance of this partnership saying, “The partnership we have with MKM Building Supplies and the Government’s Skills Bootcamp is a game changer in the logistics industry.” By quickly training a motivated group of Class 2 HGV drivers, we are filling the skills shortage that has plagued the industry for so long.” This initiative gives a quick solution to the driver shortage problem but also creates new employment opportunities for many who want to begin a fulfilling career in HGV driving.
The training programme is set at MKM Building Supplies’ key locations and includes an intensive, practical learning schedule designed by HGVT’s expert instructors. Participants will undergo rigorous hands-on training, mastering vehicle operation, safety protocols, and route planning to ensure they meet the high standards expected of professional HGV drivers.
Kate Tinsley, CEO of MKM Building Supplies, highlighted the practical benefits of the programme, saying, “This partnership with HGVT helps to establish a direct source of highly qualified drivers that can meet demands of our wide supply chain network. This initiative improves our operational capacity for delivering services and, at the same time, provides employment opportunities for locals.”
The programme is actually a part of the government’s strategy for improving the vocational training system in the whole of the UK with the focus on filling gaps in skills demand in certain sectors. At the end of the programme, participants are awarded a full Class 2 HGV license as a proof of their competency and ability to be productive in the logistics sector.
While the first group of trainees are expected to finish their training soon, HGVT and MKM Building Supplies are already looking at the future and considering how to replicate this model in other areas. This growth will only serve to intensify the effectiveness of the programme, enabling even more people to begin new careers and meet the requirements of the logistics industry.
This aligns with the vision of HGVT in offering direction withinnovative educational programmes that meet market standards and offer employment opportunities in the HGV sector. HGVT and MKM Building Supplies encourage interested candidates to submit their applications for the next training sessions because the availability is limited and will be quickly taken.
