Members of VFW Post 1963 donated $10,000 to the 2024 Mike’s Seafood Run-Walk for Autism, which benefits autism charities.

The check was presented to Mike Monichetti, the owner of Mike’s Seafood Market and Dockside Restaurant, located in Sea Isle City’s historic Fish Alley.

Monichetti and his wife, Jeannie, organize and host the annual fundraiser. They said they are very appreciative of the donation.

“We are extremely grateful to everyone at VFW Post 1963 not only for supporting our Run Walk for Autism, but also for supporting our community in many ways through the years,” Monichetti said. “Here in Sea Isle City, everyone comes together, helps each other out, and is always there for each other – and this is a fine example of that. There is no greater shore town than Sea Isle City, because we always have each other’s backs.”

The autism fundraiser was held on Saturday, Feb. 17. Mike Monichetti told SeaIsleNews.com that an estimated $125,000 was raised to spread awareness about autism and provide funding for programs and other initiatives. “With this amazing donation, we are going to be able to help a lot of people with disabilities – thanks to the generosity of the wonderful members of VFW Post 1963,” Monichetti said. “Any day you can do something for children with disabilities, it’s a good day.” Post 1963 Commander Joe McLenaghan, who organized the check presentation on Feb. 9, said of the donation, "We are so pleased to be able to support the Autism Run and Walk because of the tremendous work that is accomplished through that organization.”

He noted that the purpose of the VFW is to support "our nation’s veterans and our surrounding community,” and the community has responded with generosity.

“We had a great response from the people of our community during our VFW’s recent annual drive, and we have been very fortunate that our canteen has been profitable in recent times," he said. "Plus, we have received outside donations from businesses and organizations, and we want to put that money to good use."
