Desiderio to be sworn in for new term as County Commissioner

Cape May County Board of Commissioners Director Leonard Desiderio

  • Cape May County

Cape May County Board of Commissioners Director Leonard Desiderio was all but guaranteed reelection in November, even before one voter cast a ballot.

Desiderio, a Republican who has served on the board that oversees county government since 2002, faced no opposition in the election to win his eighth term.

To start 2025, he will be sworn into his new three-year term on Jan. 2 at the Board of Commissioners’ annual reorganization meeting.

The ceremony is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at the county’s William E. Sturm Administration Building in Cape May Court House. The ceremony is open to the public.

Former Superior Court Judge Michael Donohue, who serves as chairman of Cape May County’s Republican Party, will administer the oath of office to Desiderio.

Separate from his county position, Desiderio also serves as mayor of Sea Isle City. He has been Sea Isle’s mayor since 1993 and is one of the few lawmakers in New Jersey to hold two elected offices at the same time.
