Heating System Repaired at St. Joseph Church

  • Sea Isle City

The heat at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sea Isle City has been restored thanks to emergency repairs that were funded by donations from the congregation.

“Great news! The church is now warm again!!” Father Perry Cherubini, St. Joseph’s pastor, said in a message Wednesday to parishioners.

The church lost heat in November, prompting Father Cherubini to urge parishioners to dress warmly for Mass until the heating system was repaired.

On Tuesday, the church’s maintenance contractor installed two replacement heat induction motors to restore the warm air.

“The church is now quite comfortable! Dressing in layers and wearing your winter coat is no longer necessary when attending Mass,” Father Cherubini said in the message.

The estimated cost for replacing the heating motors was $5,000, plus additional expenses for freight, labor and miscellaneous parts. The total came to $7,030.

Father Cherubini had appealed to the congregation for donations to help pay for the emergency repairs. Donations amounted to $13,661, nearly double the total repair cost, he said.

The extra $6,661 in donations will go toward the replacement of the church’s heating, air-conditioning and ventilation system in the summer, Father Cherubini said while thanking the parishioners for their support.
