Sea Isle’s VFW to Observe POW-MIA Recognition Day on Friday

Sea Isle City's Chair of Honor at Veterans Park is in recognition of U.S. military members who were prisoners of war or remain missing in action.

Mayor Leonard Desiderio respectfully asks everyone to commemorate National POW-MIA Recognition Day on Friday, Sept. 15, in Sea Isle City. Residents and visitors are invited to a POW-MIA Remembrance Ceremony at 6 p.m. Friday at VFW Post 1963, 301 JFK Boulevard. The community will honor U.S. military members who served as prisoners of war and those who are still missing in action. The event is hosted by Post 1963’s Auxiliary, which is the largest VFW Auxiliary in the state of New Jersey. Members of the public are also invited to visit Veterans Park on Sept. 15 or any other day of the year to view Sea Isle’s “Chair of Honor.” The Chair of Honor is a permanent public display that acknowledges captured or missing U.S. military personnel. Veterans Park is located on Landis Avenue at JFK Boulevard and is open to the public year-round. “I encourage everyone to attend Post 1963’s POW-MIA Ceremony – and later on, please visit Veterans Park, where you will find a Chair of Honor and a beautiful bronze plaque that reminds passersby that the people of our community recognize and honor the American service men and women who were prisoners of war or are still missing in action,” Desiderio said. For more information about VFW Post 1963’s POW-MIA Remembrance Ceremony on Friday, call Auxiliary President Peggy Moore at 609-922-3383.
