There are several upcoming events that I want to mention, so everyone can mark their calendars and plan to attend.
The first is our annual National Vietnam War Veterans Day Ceremony at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, at Veterans Park.
We are extremely honored to host this event each year, because here in Sea Isle City we greatly value the men and women who served in our nation’s military – and we also realize that many Vietnam War veterans returned home after serving in Southeast Asia and did not receive the proper welcome they deserved.
With that in mind, I hope as many people as possible will be able to join us on March 29 as we pay tribute to all our Vietnam War vets and shower them with respect and gratitude.
Next, the Sea Isle City Environmental Commission will host their annual Spring Beach Clean-up on Saturday morning, April 1, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Volunteers are needed at this event to gather trash and debris from our beaches, dunes, and other natural areas.
No advance registration is required to participate in the Beach Clean-up – just arrive on the morning of April 1 with a healthy dose of respect for our local eco-system and an eagerness to make a positive impact in our community.
If you have children and you plan to be in Sea Isle City during Easter weekend, don’t miss our 2nd Annual Spring Fling Family Fun Day at Excursion Park on Saturday, April 8, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
During this free event, families can participate in a variety of seasonal activities, including contests, games, crafts, dancing, photo-ops with the Easter bunny, face painting, and a mini “Easter Stroll” that will allow families to show-off their best springtime attire. The Spring Fling is hosted by Sea Isle’s Divisions of Tourism and Recreation – and it promises to be great fun.
Anyone who enjoys good food, shopping and great bargains won’t want to miss the Chamber of Commerce & Revitalization’s annual Spring Girls Weekend on April 21, 22, and 23.
During Girls Weekend, participating businesses across Sea Isle City will welcome the arrival of springtime by offering special deals and discounts.
This popular event is a “must do” – so call or text your girlfriends, sisters, nieces, and mothers, and tell them to meet you in Sea Isle City for Girls Weekend.
Additional information about each of these events – and many other local happenings – can be found on the calendar page at
www.VISITSICNJ.com. Please take a look and join us for all of the fun that awaits you in Sea Isle City.
I want to commend the retail businesses that hosted the “Bargains by the Bay” shopping spree at the Oar House Pub on Sunday.
I am told that the deals and discounts that were offered at Bargains by the Bay were not to be missed, and that many people walked home with shopping bags filled with great merchandise at very low prices.
My compliments go to our local business community for offering this unique shopping experience on March 5 – and for making so many shoppers happy.
Don’t forget that Daylight Saving Time begins this weekend, and we will “spring forward” one-hour on Sunday morning – so don’t forget to adjust your clocks!
This week’s “Shout Out” goes to Harry and Linda Ley, local property owners who recently told me that they enjoy reading our newsletter and spending time in Sea Isle City.
One of the great joys of being the mayor of a wonderful town such as ours is continually meeting nice people and realizing what a special community we have.
Thank you for your kind words, Harry and Linda!
Smile … You’re in Sea Isle,
Mayor Leonard C. Desiderio
