Even though many of us are wondering where the month of July went, I am happy to report that the Summer of 2023 is going very well here in Sea Isle City. In addition to the amazing weather we have experienced, our seasonal events continue to delight people of all ages, our beaches are bustling, and everyone seems to be enjoying themselves.
As you may have heard, earlier this month we were very fortunate to welcome the Stanley Cup back to Sea Isle City – thanks to Vegas Golden Knights Assistant Coach John Stevens and his wife, Stacy, who graciously brought that iconic trophy to our community following the Golden Knights’ championship win in the spring.
Unlike in 2014, when the Stevens family also brought the Stanley Cup to town, this visit was much briefer due to time restraints – but this time around John and Stacy were kind enough to give Sea Isle City’s municipal and postal employees some time for photo-ops with the Cup, and their kind gesture was very much appreciated.

Even though June and July have flown by very quickly, there’s no need to worry that the summer is almost over, because we still have many activities planned before Labor Day arrives – in addition to our Saturday Night Concerts Under the Stars, Family Fun Nights, Farmers Markets, and other weekly activities.
For example, young athletes won’t want to miss the Philadelphia Phillies Home Run Derby on Sunday, July 30, at Dealy Field, where boys and girls can compete for prizes while showing off their batting skills.
Another annual event that families look forward to is National Night Out, which takes place on Tuesday, August 2. As is the case each year, our local police officers are hosting Sea Isle’s National Night Out celebration at Excursion Park, where children and their parents can play games, enjoy complimentary snacks and giveaways, climb onboard fire engines and other emergency vehicles, and have other fun with Sea Isle’s first responders.
If you are a competitive runner, you won’t want to miss the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol’s 2023 Captain Bill Gallagher 10-Mile Island Run on Saturday, August 5. This annual race always attracts a huge field of participants (over 600 runners competed in 2022), and it is also very exciting for spectators – so, if you are not interested in joining the race, I hope as many people as possible will go to the Promenade or onto the beach to cheer-on all of this year’s “Island Runners.”

Even though going to the beach and enjoying our summer activities seem to be everyone’s main focus during this time of year, please know that our municipal employees always have their eyes on the horizon, because running a seashore community requires a twelve-month-a-year commitment.
Because of this, we are currently planning our next round of capital projects, which will ensure that our infrastructure is in good shape and our facilities are well-maintained, and we are already thinking of ways to make the summer of 2024 even more enjoyable.
Also, because the beach is our biggest attraction, Sea Isle City is on schedule for an important Beach Replenishment Project this autumn, which will help us maintain a strong shoreline and make certain that there is plenty of sand for everyone to enjoy when they go to the beach.
As you may recall, Sea Isle City is part of the United States Army Corps of Engineers’ 50-Year Beach Replenishment Program – so we can all look forward to enjoying healthy beaches for many years to come.
This week’s “Shout Out” goes to Sea Isle City’s Lifeguards and Beach Tag employees, who work hard every day in the sun and represent our city with a level of dedication and friendliness that keep people coming back to Sea Isle City year after year. Thank you, Lifeguards and Beach Taggers!
Smile … You’re in Sea Isle,
Mayor Leonard C. Desiderio
