New Eagle Scout Honored in Sea Isle

  • News
After earning 44 merit badges and completing all the requirements set forth by the Boy Scouts of America, Aaron Morton advanced to the rank of Eagle Scout during a Court of Honor ceremony inside Sea Isle City’s Community Lodge on Dec. 2. With family members, friends, older Eagle Scouts and the members of Boy Scout Troop 76 looking on, Aaron, 17, lit ceremonial candles, was given praise for his accomplishment and received his Eagle Scout Badge, the Boy Scouts highest rank. Elected officials were also in attendance to present the new Eagle Scout with proclamations in recognition of his achievements. In addition to serving as a “Life Scout” for the required amount of time and earning a variety of merit badges, Aaron was also required to complete an Eagle Scout Service Project of his choosing.
The butterfly garden is outside of the Sea Isle City branch of the county library at 48th Street and Central Avenue. Eagle Scout Service Projects must benefit the community, a school, a church, or a civic organization other than the Boy Scouts of America. For his project, Aaron, who attends Mainland Regional High School in Linwood, chose to create a butterfly garden on the grounds of the Sea Isle City Branch of the Cape May County Library. After raising funds to complete his project, he planted a variety of butterfly-attracting shrubs, added decorative trim around the garden’s edge, and installed an informational sign.
