After many rounds of golf at The Pines at Clermont Golf Club, participants in VFW Post 1963’s 2022 Golf League celebrated the end of their season – and the league’s 20th anniversary – with a final round of golf followed by a luncheon inside the Post’s headquarters in Sea Isle City.
During the Oct. 20 luncheon, which had 100 golfers in attendance, prizes were distributed to the league’s standout players, including cash awards for the overall top male and female golfers of the year.
The top male players in 2022 were Terry Moore, first place; Mark Lloyd, second; Dan Healy, third; and Joe Foell, Bill Woodman and Joe Stoltenberg, who were tied for fourth place.
The best female players were Patti Lloyd, first place; Cathy O’Brien and Terry Ward, tied for second; Anne Mosenson, third; and Pati Gaull, fourth.
In addition to prizes for the league’s overall top performers, each player who scored a “birdie” in 2022 received a commemorative golf ball for each birdie he or she achieved.
Additionally, Karen Keinath, who was participating in the league for the first time, was presented with a trophy for scoring a hole-in-one; and Terry Moore, who is the Commissioner of the Golf League’s Board, received the 2022 Jack Shimpf Unsung Hero Award for Outstanding League Contributions.
Jack Shimpf, who was on hand to present the award, is a U.S. Army Airborne veteran and Silver Star Medal recipient. He served in the Vietnam War from 1965-1966 before returning to Vietnam for six months in 1970 as a civilian working with the U.S. Veterans Administration.
According to the league’s organizers, proceeds raised during the annual Golf League benefit VFW Post 1963 and its Auxiliary. Throughout the season, they also collect donations for a local food bank.
“Each week, our golfers donated nonperishable food items for the Sea Isle City United Methodist Food Pantry, and over the course of this year we collected hundreds of pounds of food,” Terry Moore said.
“We also received donated merchandise from area golf courses, which we raffled off during our luncheon to raise additional money for the VFW,” Moore continued. “Overall, it was a very successful year, and we are very grateful for all of the support we received during our 20th season. We are a league that supports the VFW Post 1963 and our many veterans in the area.”
