By MADDY VITALE Sea Isle City continues to improve roadways during the offseason in an effort to make sure the streets are in good condition for visitors and residents. A major project entails roadway reconstruction on various streets including Central Avenue from 29th to 36th Streets and streets from Landis to Central Avenues. The plan is to do the work when the weather improves. In addition to roadway reconstruction is a project to repave several streets. The work already began earlier this month. Among the areas being repaved are 57th Street from Central to Sounds Avenue and 58th Street from Central to Sounds. Mayor Leonard Desiderio said in a statement this month that the city takes advantage of the offseason to do the important roadwork. “We completed numerous municipal projects in 2021, including making improvements to our roadways, updating utilities, and opening two very popular outdoor recreation facilities,” Desiderio said. The mayor continued, “However, we are not stopping there, because this year we have additional work to do, including completing our Lagoon Dredging Project, further updating our utilities, and performing some additional roadwork. That being said, I want to thank each of you for your patience just in case you encounter road detours during the months ahead.”
Work is being done this week in the area of the 200 Block of 58th Street and Sounds Avenue. Motorists in the resort have likely come upon their share of “Road Closed” and “Detour” signs as they have driven around areas of Sea Isle, with projects that began in the fall. But Desiderio stressed it is all part of creating better roadways and infrastructure at the most ideal time to do it -- in the offseason. The city launched a series of road reconstruction, paving and utility projects. Currently, many of the projects are in the punch list phase or have been completed. Here are the most recent projects that are either set to begin soon or are already underway. On Nov. 23, City Council awarded a contract to Landberg Construction, LLC of Dorothy, N.J., in the amount of $835,167 for reconstruction of these streets. However, the work will not start until the weather improves, city officials said.
  • Central Avenue – 29th Street to 36th Street.
  • 29th Street – Landis Avenue to Central Avenue.
  • 32nd Street – Landis Avenue to Central Avenue.
  • 33rd Street – Landis Avenue to Central Avenue.
  • 34th Street – Landis Avenue to Central Avenue.
Paving is currently being done at several streets. On Sept.14, City Council awarded a contract to Think Pavers, Inc. of Mt. Royal, N.J., in the amount of $662,547 for paving several streets. This project began earlier this month. In addition, concrete work has begun on 57th Street and 58th Street from Central Avenue to Sounds Avenue. The streets are as follows:
  • 56th Street – Central Avenue to Sounds Avenue.
  • 57th Street – Central Avenue to Sounds Avenue.
  • 58th Street – Central Avenue to Sounds Avenue.
  • Roberts Avenue – 56th Street to 57th Street.
  • Venicean Road – 44th Street 200 feet west. (South Jersey Gas Company, in conjunction with this project, will be paving 44th Street at Park Road).
