Sea Isle to Host Combined Art and Green Fair

Sea Isle is gearing up for a big Art/Green Fair. It will include the popular free tree raffles and this year local artists will showcase all that can be created with recycled items. The Art/Green Fair will be held on Saturday, June 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Excursion Park. Organizers are seeking artists to be a part of the event. There will be demonstrations on recycling and a collection of local art. Attendees will also get the chance to learn how to create art from recycled materials. The fair is being sponsored by the Sea Isle City Department of Community Services, Environmental Commission, Shade Tree Team, Green Team, Creative Team, and Chamber of Commerce. The first Green Fair was back in 2019, but organizers said it was lightly attended and reintroduced it for 2022. The city’s Department of Community Services would like local artists interested in becoming a part of the fair to fill out a form online, specifically about what type of art they would like to include in the fair and what recycled materials – if any – were used. Christie Ostrander, assistant to the Director of Community Services and Sea Isle City’s liaison to the Sustainable New Jersey Program, said Friday that the response has been “very positive.” “The response has been very positive so far, because people have told us that they are looking forward to the Art Fair being part of the Green Fair. As it turns out, art was a missing component in the event,” Ostrander explained. She added, “The Art / Green Fair will help Sea Isle City maintain its Bronze status with the Sustainable New Jersey Program and because there will be a wide variety of art mediums on display as well as interesting environmental information available, we are sure people will really enjoy it.” There is no fee to become a part of the fair. Each artist will be given a table to display their artwork and they will be asked to provide an explanation with their artwork describing the materials used. “It really is a Green Fair with a new twist. The art show is new,” noted Annette Lombardo, chairwoman of the Environmental Commission. “We will still do our part, but Christie really did a great job with it.” Lombardo continued, “I think it is great because more people will come out and be made more aware and different things that are happenings with the environment.” The Environmental Commission will provide free tree raffles to fair attendees and award 30 winning property owners with the trees in June. The trees are all suited for the elements on the barrier island. The commission is also providing reusable bags that will be given out at the Art/Green Fair.
