Sea Isle City is planning to spend quite a bit of money to renovate a building that is a popular place to, ahem, go.
The men’s and women’s restrooms on the Promenade at 40th Street are expected to be spruced up with new fixtures, lighting and flooring at an estimated cost of $100,000.
City spokeswoman Katherine Custer said the 40th Street restrooms are one of the busiest locations for Sea Isle’s public bathrooms.
They are just steps off the oceanfront Promenade and are also adjacent to the Excursion Park Band Shell, the location of the city’s festivals, summer concerts, movie nights and family dance parties.
“Our restrooms get a lot of wear and tear and that is one of our busiest restrooms,” Custer said
The bathroom renovation is included in Sea Isle’s 2022 capital plan, a sweeping blueprint for construction projects and infrastructure improvements throughout the city.
The $100,000 proposed in the capital plan for the project is simply an estimate of how much the renovations may cost, not a firm amount.
Custer emphasized that the project is still in the early stages. She noted that the city hopes to complete the restroom renovations in time for the 2022 summer tourism season.
“The city just began with the project. Ideally, it would be done by summer, but it is still in the very preliminary planning stages,” she said.
