Mayor’s Message: April 7

  • News
My sincerest thanks go to everyone who attended Sea Isle’s 2022 Vietnam War Veterans Day Ceremony on March 29 at Veterans Park. Despite brisk temperatures and a chilly breeze, we had a very nice turnout of spectators, who helped us honor the men and women who served in the U.S. Military during the Vietnam War. As I stated during last week’s ceremony, our Vietnam veterans were our nation’s forgotten heroes for far too many years – and many of them are just beginning to receive the respect and thanks they deserve. So, please keep that in mind the next time you encounter veterans who served in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War, and be sure to thank them for their service! Not only was this year’s Vietnam War Veterans Day Ceremony memorable because of the audience members and participants who braved the elements to be there – it was also special because we unveiled a new bronze plaque next to the “Chair of Honor” that was installed at Veterans Park last fall. The plaque explains the purpose of the Chair of Honor, and it also reminds everyone that America’s prisoners of war and those who are still missing in action are not forgotten here in Sea Isle City. If you were not able to be with us when we unveiled the new plaque, please stop by Veterans Park at your earliest convenience to read its inscription – and also please keep the families of those who did not return home from battle in your prayers. This weekend, our friends at the Sea Isle City Environmental Commission will host their annual Spring Beach Clean-up on Saturday, April 9 at 10 a.m. The Beach Clean-up is a very important annual effort, and it is made possible because of the volunteers who selflessly will give an hour or two of their time to remove trash and debris from our beaches and dunes. Families, individuals and groups are invited to make a positive impact on the local environment during this event, so please help-out if you can on Saturday morning! As the weather continues to warm-up, we are seeing the reappearance of our “snow bird” friends, who have begun to return to Sea Isle City from their winter homes in Florida and other warm locations. We are also seeing many of our second-homeowners back in town after the long winter, which is always a welcome sight. This is an enjoyable time of year for those of us who look forward to re-connecting with neighbors and other folks we have not seen in many months – and it is always such a pleasure to welcome everyone home to Sea Isle City! This is also the time of year when we begin to wrap-up our various municipal construction projects prior to the start of the summer season. Once again, I want to thank everyone for their patience as we resurfaced and reconstructed some of our streets during the off-season, and I hope everyone is enjoying the “smooth sailing” that many of our newly paved roads now offer. As I indicated in our last E-Newsletter, the spring is a great time to be in Sea Isle City for a variety of reasons. Unfortunately, however, our Division of Recreation’s annual Easter Program at Dealy Field had to be postponed for one-week due to the rainy forecast on Wednesday. Therefore, our Easter Program will take place on Wednesday April 13 – which means we will have two family-friendly Easter-themed events taking place next week. In addition to the Easter Program, don’t miss our Division of Tourism’s new Spring Fling Family Fun Day on Saturday, April 16, at Excursion Park. Both events will feature the Easter Bunny and other fun activities, and hopefully your family will be able to attend one (or both) of these gatherings. And speaking of our Division of Tourism, they have finalized plans for Sea Isle’s 2022 city-sponsored Saturday night concerts, family movies and “Family Fun Nights” at Excursion Park -- so, if you are looking for enjoyable things to do this summer, look no further than Sea Isle City!
