It was one year ago today that the public health emergency and state of emergency was declared in New Jersey due to the coronavirus. As everyone knows, we’re now trying to expedite vaccinations and move us closer to putting this long nightmare behind us. We are seeing positive news, as the number of reported COVID-19 cases in the region continues to trend downward.
To help stay on that track, I urge everyone to continue to be careful and use common sense. Clearly, our efforts wearing masks, social distancing, and using best sanitary practices has paid off. It is not a coincidence that, despite the coronavirus pandemic, the number of flu cases have dramatically been reduced.
We’ve come a long way in the past year, and I’m hopeful that as each day passes, we’ll get closer to the return to normalcy we all crave.
Spring is less than two weeks away, and we are working to wrap up our public projects in time for the summer season. The fishing pier and kayak launch facility is coming together nicely, and will be open to the public by this May.
As the weather improves and gets warmer, we’ll also be finishing any road and utility work before we shut things down for the summer season.
Next month, we’re planning to hold a public presentation on the progress of designs for the community center planned for the site of the former public school. We’re going to show everyone where we’re at in the design process and get feedback before moving forward to the next stage of design.
The city has listened to the concerns raised over the future uses of the facility, and the need for various spaces, and we’ll be able to address all of this in detail. As I’ve said before, we still have a ways to go – we haven’t yet authorized the architect to prepare construction documents; but as I’ve also said before, I believe we’re on the right track; and ultimately we’ll build a facility that the public wants and that the City needs so we can deliver the best community services for our residents.
