I’m happy to report that vaccinations for COVID-19 are proceeding in Cape May County; and here in Sea Isle City, our first responders have received their first dose of the vaccine.
We’re hopeful that in the next several months, vaccinations will be made available to the entire population.
The state has launched a vaccine registration portal, where you can go online and complete a brief form. The state will then email or text you when you become eligible for the vaccine and provide you with information on when and where to get vaccinated.
As many people have probably noticed, we have several projects going on around town, as we work to get improvements done before the summer season.
A major project taking shape is our fishing pier and kayak launch behind Dealy Field. I had the opportunity to personally inspect the project last week, and I’m confident that the facility will be ready for use this spring.
Another project that we have planned, which was adopted in the capital plan, is the construction of pickleball courts next to the marina building. Design is underway and at the next City Council meeting the administration will bring forward a capital funding ordinance to pay for this project. Our goal is to have this built for the coming summer season.
Finally, for most of the past year, I’ve ended my reports and newsletter messages with the reminder that we are all one Sea Isle City and together we’ll be stronger than ever. The events of the past week have made me realize how important this is not only in Sea Isle, but throughout the nation.
Regardless of our differences, we all have common goals. We all want a better world for our children. We all want – in the words of our Declaration of Independence – the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
In the Pledge of Allegiance, we speak of one nation under God, indivisible ...
How many times have we heard the phrase: “United we stand, divided we fall”?
It’s all about sticking together. It doesn’t mean we can’t disagree ... but it does mean we stay true to our core values of respect, integrity, and tolerance.
So again, let us all remember – we’re one Sea Isle City and above all, we’re one America – and together we will be stronger than ever.
Sincerely,
Mayor Leonard Desiderio
