It’s hard to believe that there’s less than two weeks to Labor Day. While for the most part, we were able to return to a large degree of normalcy for the summer, the region and the country continues to deal with the effects of the coronavirus.
We’re all aware of the recent increase in cases; and in the issues related to how we’re all handling this.
I ask everyone to be respectful of each other’s views. All of us want our families and loved ones to be healthy and free of sickness, and the fact is that some folks believe in different approaches. No matter what, we will get through this.
At the last City Council meeting, we had a lot of discussion about managing the crowds we’ve had this summer, and I announced several measures we were taking to work together with the community to ensure public safety.
I’m pleased to say today, that our efforts seem to be paying off in only the two weeks since that last meeting. I’ve had the opportunity to go out with the police department in the evening and witness their efforts firsthand; and I’ve received a lot of positive feedback from many residents about our efforts.
I also want to thank everyone who has raised their concerns for working in a positive manner with us; and I want to thank the police, along with the County Sheriff’s Office, for doing a great job. We also remain committed to working with the State Attorney General to revise some of the laws and directives that have been overly restrictive to law enforcement, so that our police have appropriate guidelines before next summer’s season.
As I said at the last meeting, all we’re looking for is respectful behavior. I also want to repeat my previous request – that if you see or hear anything that you think is a problem, call the police right away. Don’t waste time posting on social media – call the police.
Remember we are one Sea Isle City, and together we will be stronger than ever.
