Yesterday, Governor Murphy eased restrictions on both indoor and outdoor gatherings effective May 10 – with limits set at 250 on various indoor activities, and 500 on outdoor gatherings. The Governor also indicated that we can expect further easing of restrictions in the coming weeks.
This news, along with our progress on vaccinations, should give us continued confidence that we will be able to enjoy a great summer season. In fact, I have so much confidence that I’m pleased to announce that we will be holding our fireworks celebration on the 4th of July; and I hope to make an announcement soon about our summer concerts.
This past Saturday, we unveiled our presentation on the proposed new Community Center planned for the site of the former public school in the 4500 block of Park Road. For those who want to view the presentation, you can go to the City’s website, and an easy link will take you to the 22-minute video.
As of today, over two thousand people have viewed the presentation, and we have received several dozen comments, the vast majority of which have been positive. I want to remind everyone that we are still in the design development phase, and we’ll be considering all of the feedback on our efforts to date. Once we’re satisfied that we have completed design development, we’ll be asking City Council to authorize award of a contract for preparation of construction documents.
On today’s Council agenda is a resolution that establishes the facility behind Dealy Field as the “Jim Iannone Fishing Pier and Kayak Launch.” I am so pleased to see this resolution in honor of former Commissioner Iannone; and I want to remind everyone that this coming Saturday, May 1st, we’ll be holding a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially commemorate the new kayak launch and fishing pier project in Jim’s honor.
Finally, as always – please remember – we’re one Sea Isle City and together we will be stronger than ever.
Sincerely,
Mayor Leonard Desiderio
