Mayor's Message: April 13

  • News
I’m pleased to report that Cape May County has consistently led the state of New Jersey in administration of the COVID vaccine, with the County also continuing to have the lowest number of new COVID cases per capita among all New Jersey counties in the latest statewide survey. Here in Sea Isle City, we are now down to two active COVID cases. I want to thank everyone for all of their efforts in staying safe and looking out for each other by following mask wearing and social distance guidelines; and I’d like to remind everyone that if they need help signing up for the vaccine, our Community Services Department is set up to assist with the registration assistance process. While we still have to keep our guard up, I truly believe we are getting closer and closer to a return to normalcy, and I think we’re going to have a great summer season, with people once again enjoying the company of family and friends. As we approach the summer season, we’re getting ready to finish our kayak launch and fishing pier project behind Dealy Field, and on Saturday, May 1, we’ll hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially commemorate this facility in honor of former commissioner Jim Iannone. Construction is also in progress for our new pickleball courts next to the marina, and we’re on track to have these ready for play this summer. We’re also working on construction of a new storm water pipeline on 40th Street, from Central to Cini, that will serve to relieve some of the chronic flooding experienced at the drainage area, which is served by inlets at 40th and Central. We’re also getting ready for the public presentation on the progress of design for the Community Center planned for the site of the former public school. We’re scheduled to hold this on Saturday, April 24, and we’ll be putting out information within the next week about how folks will be able to participate, as the meeting will be virtual. And in entertainment news, Taylor Swift’s new song “The Best Day” features home videos that include scenes from the beach in Sea Isle City. This isn’t the first time Ms. Swift has included Sea Isle in her music productions, so we have to believe that we hold a special place in her heart. Finally, as always – please remember – we’re one Sea Isle City and together we will be stronger than ever. Mayor Leonard C. Desiderio
