An Atlantic spotted dolphin washed ashore dead on Sunday in Sea Isle City, according to a Facebook post by the Brigantine-based Marine Mammal Stranding Center.
“Sadly, she was also pregnant. In the MMSC's 42 year history, we have only ever had six Atlantic spotted dolphin strandings, including this dolphin and her unborn fetus,” the post reads. The dolphin was transported to the New Jersey Animal Health Diagnostic Laboratory for a necropsy to learn more about the cause of death.
