Obviously, due to the coronavirus, this was an unusual summer – to say the least. Nonetheless, I feel that we have a great deal to be thankful for here in Sea Isle City, including beautiful weather that brightened our days, a business community that did all they could to accommodate customers and provide the services that people desire, and cheerful residents and visitors, who are the heart and soul of our community.
As we all know, in addition to being a day that honors the accomplishments and diligence of American workers, Labor Day is also the unofficial end of the summer season, which means we can anticipate several perennial changes to occur in the weeks ahead (other than the arrival of cooler autumn weather).
One important change is the reduced number of lifeguards on our shoreline following Labor Day Weekend. Currently, the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol is scheduled to provide lifeguard coverage on the following days and beaches:
Weekdays:
- Tuesday, September 8, thru Friday, September 11: 40th, 45th, 59th, 75th and 86th Streets.
Weekends:
- Saturday & Sunday, September 12 & 13: 28th, 34th, 38th, 40th, 45th, 51st, 56th, 59th, 64th, 75th, 81st, 86th and 92nd Streets.
- Saturday & Sunday, September 19 & 20:28th, 34th, 40th, 45th, 51st, 56th, 59th, 64th, 75th, 81st, 86th and 92nd Streets.
- Saturday & Sunday, September 26 & 27:28th, 34th, 40th, 51st, 59th, 64th, 75th, 81st and 86th Streets.
Please keep in mind that due to unexpected changes, last minute alterations to this schedule may be necessary. For the most up-to-date information about lifeguard coverage, please phone SICBP Headquarters at 609-263-3655. Most importantly, please remember that you should never enter the water unless a lifeguard is present.
In addition to the end of the summer season and changes to our lifeguard schedule, Labor Day’s arrival also means that a number of municipal improvement projects will soon commence. Because summer is obviously the most coveted time of year at the shore, we try to halt as many public projects as possible during the summer season so people can enjoy their time in Sea Isle City to the fullest.
Then, in September, we kick-start our efforts to update our infrastructure, repave streets, and generally make our community the best it can be. Therefore, please be aware that projects such as storm water drainage improvements, sanitary sewer replacement, road reconstruction and other important endeavors will get underway in the not-too-distant future.

In other news, we have been examining ways to improve bicycle safety in Sea Isle City. Because everyone’s well-being is always our number one concern, the members of the Sea Isle City Police Department have been focusing on the ways they can educate bicyclists about the role they play while riding along our streets.
More information about a new initiative from the SICPD will soon be shared with the public; however, in the meantime I ask that all residents and visitors remember that bicycles must ride single file on the right side of the road, stop at stop signs, and yield to pedestrians.
I want to thank everyone in Sea Isle City for their patience and cooperation as we navigated through the recent months together – and as we continue to work as one people to defeat this pandemic.
