The Ocean City High School boys soccer team saw their 2020 season come to an end Tuesday with a 3-0 playoff loss against visiting Northern Burlington.
The Red Raiders finish with a 9-2-1 record.
Northern Burlington opened up the scoring quickly, with under one minute of play off the clock. They would then score again in the opening minutes of the second half, pushing their advantage to 2-0.
The third Northern Burlington goal would be scored halfway through the second, sealing the fate of Ocean City in a 3-0 loss to end the shortened season.
Northern Burlington came into the Southwest D Group 3 quarterfinal round as the sixth seed to Ocean City’s No. 3 seed.
The Red Raiders previously defeated Burlington Township in the opening round of the tournament to advance to the quarterfinal round.
Ocean City Head Coach Aaron Bogushefsky said that regardless of the outcome of Tuesday's game, he was proud of his team.
“We ran into a great team tonight, but I don’t want this season to be defined by tonight’s game,” he said. “I am proud of my team and what we accomplished this season.”
Playing in their final game for the Red Raiders were seniors Chris Calabro, Nick Chiccarine, Connor James, Kyle Harper, Reed Lindsay, Sean MacNaughton, Armando Martinez, Sergio Miller, Kyle Plenn and Drew Tarr.
“I want to thank this senior class for their four years of dedication and buying into the program. They have taught the rest of the team so much and they should be proud,” Bogushefsky said.
