Mayor's Message: Nov. 5

  • News
It’s difficult to believe, but this E-Newsletter is now 10 years old! We launched Sea Isle City’s first E-Newsletter in October 2010, and since then we have never missed a bi-weekly deadline, because we realize how important it is to keep everyone aware of what’s happening in their favorite shore community. Currently, nearly 7,500 individuals receive our newsletters and alerts, and it warms my heart to know that so many people care deeply about the goings-on in Sea Isle City. As we begin our next decade together, each one of our readers has my assurance that we will continue to provide everyone with accurate and timely information – because we realize how much you care about this community. Each autumn, Sea Isle City’s Chamber of Commerce hosts a special event called “Girls Weekend” that always proves to be a fun time for ladies of all ages. During Girls Weekend, which takes place November 20, 21 and 22, businesses throughout Sea Isle City will offer noteworthy discounts on merchandise, special offers in restaurants, and a variety of other great deals. In short, Girls Weekend is the perfect time for ladies to enjoy quality time with their girlfriends, sisters, mothers, nieces, and even their second cousins twice removed – so mark your calendars and don’t miss Girls Weekend. Now that November has arrived, the 2020 Holiday Season is just around the corner. Even though this year has brought us many unexpected challenges, I firmly believe that the beauty of the holidays will lift our spirits and remind of us of the goodness and generosity that exists in the world – after all, it is the “Season of Giving.” With that in mind, we will soon be launching our 28th Annual Mayor’s Holiday Toy and Food Drive, which benefits struggling families in our area. As is our tradition, we soon will begin collecting donations of non-perishable food items, toys, and gift cards – and we will once again need your support to make this event a success. So, if you have the means, please consider dropping off a donation at any of the following locations starting November 16: Mrs. Brizzle’s Buns (4601 Landis Avenue), First Bank of Sea Isle City (4301 Landis Avenue), Ricks Breakfast House (6114 Landis Avenue), KIX Package Goods (on 63rd Street), and the lobby of City Hall (233 JFK Boulevard). As you may have heard, we are canceling this year’s in-person Veterans Day Ceremony at Veterans Park in an effort to protect the very large crowd of patriots who always attend that event. However, because we do not want to let November 11 pass without honoring the men and women who served in our nation’s military, we are creating a special Veterans Day Tribute Video, which we will share with everyone through our E-News mailing system, on our municipal website and on Facebook. So, please take a moment to view the brief video we will be sending your way – and also take the time to thank a Veteran for his or her service. Another event that we feel we must cancel because of the large crowds it attracts is Sea Isle’s annual Holiday Extravaganza over Thanksgiving Weekend. Even though we are very sad to cancel the Holiday Extravaganza – and the Mayor’s Tree Lighting Ceremony – I am delighted to report that Santa Claus will still be in Sea Isle City that same weekend, because we received word from the North Pole that Santa wouldn’t miss coming to our community “for all the candy canes in the world.” Therefore, on Friday, November 27, starting at 7 p.m., we are going to host a socially-distanced parade along Landis Avenue to welcome Santa and officially kick off the 2020 Holiday Season. More information about the parade and other “holiday happenings” will be shared in the next issue of this newsletter. Until then, plan on spending Thanksgiving Weekend in Sea Isle City and get ready for the wonderful holiday season ahead. Before I close, I want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding as we strengthen our infrastructure and continue important road projects around town. As we all know, the off-season is the only time of year we can complete major projects such as utility work and road resurfacing; and, while we continue to make Sea Isle City even better, I ask everyone to use caution as they drive through our community. This week’s “Shout Out” goes to all United States Military Veterans – here and across our great nation. In Sea Isle City, not only do we honor our veterans on Veterans Day, we try to honor them every day of the year, because freedom is not free! Thank you, Veterans! Smile … You’re in Sea Isle!
