Today, I signed Executive Order 4, which addresses changes to prior executive orders and clarifies several issues, including the sale of alcohol and the check-in dates for rental properties.
Executive Order 4 states that businesses that are licensed to sell takeout packaged goods may do so until 12 midnight, and that all package goods stores shall close by 12 midnight daily. Also, businesses that are licensed to sell takeout mixed and non-mixed alcoholic beverages may do so until 10 p.m. daily.
All other rules pertaining to alcohol in Sea Isle City remain in place. Therefore, customers are reminded that even though individual alcoholic beverages are permitted to be sold as takeout items, those purchases must be consumed at home or on other private property because carrying open containers in public remains illegal in Sea Isle City.
With regards to rental properties, seasonal rentals (30 days or more) were permitted to begin as of Monday, May 11, 2020. Transient and short-term rentals (such as weekly rentals) can begin on Saturday, May 30, 2020. It is important to note that the date of May 30 was chosen because weekly rentals in Sea Isle City typically take place from Saturday to Saturday; otherwise the City would have followed Cape May County’s June 1 start date for transient and short-term rentals.
Also, hotels and motels may operate at 60% capacity beginning Monday, June 1, 2020. Hotels and motels may operate at full capacity starting Monday, June 22, 2020.
Additionally, the City recognizes that all essential businesses, except markets and pharmacies, have been closing earlier than normal. Now, those business should close by 12 midnight daily. We understand the sacrifices made by the local business community, and we appreciate their patience and understanding as we navigate through these challenging times.
Obviously, no decisions regarding this pandemic are easily made. As we strive to balance the important tasks of keeping people safe and driving the economy, it is vital that we all stay aware of the latest information available and be mindful of all local developments related to COVID-19.
