Mayor Provides Skimmer Festival Update

  • News
Following is a statement from Mayor Leonard Desiderio: Regretfully, we recently announced that nearly all of the activities that were planned for this year’s Skimmer Festival on June 20 and 21 have been cancelled due to the extremely large crowds that gather each year during Skimmer Weekend. However, we are still able to host a couple of activities that will be very enjoyable. As you probably know, the Skimmer Seaside Vendors Market along the Promenade is the weekend’s biggest attraction. Realizing this, we wanted to offer everyone an alternative shopping experience that would still make the weekend memorable. So, we decided to shine a spotlight on Sea Isle City’s businesses by hosting a “Skimmer Sidewalk Sale” throughout town on Saturday, June 20, which will give local business owners the opportunity to place merchandise, literature and other offerings on tables and racks in front of their establishments (without blocking pedestrian traffic, of course). It promises to be a great day in Sea Isle City, so please join us for the Skimmer Sidewalk Sale tomorrow and “shop local” all day! One annual event we feel we can host with social distancing is the Skimmer Antique Auto Show & Parade on Sunday, June 21 (Father’s Day), from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. along the Promenade north of JFK Boulevard. The Auto Show will feature a variety of vintage cars and trucks that will also participate in our annual Skimmer Antique Auto Parade at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. The parade will run along Pleasure Avenue (south of 44th Street) then north along Landis Avenue (from Townsend’s Inlet to the center of town). I know it’s not the Skimmer Festival we are accustomed to, but I am confident it will be an enjoyable weekend nonetheless – simply because we will all be together in Sea Isle City. No matter where you go this weekend, I ask you to please show respect for others by wearing face masks as needed and by practicing social distancing at all times. And, as always, stay safe, stay well, remain optimistic, and remember that we are all one Sea Isle City – and together we will be stronger than ever. Sincerely, Mayor Leonard Desiderio
