By MADDY VITALE One person is dead and another was being treated for injuries in a case that began Wednesday morning with a boat that washed ashore without any passengers in the north end waters of Ocean City. The call came in at 11:58 a.m. Troopers from the State Police Atlantic City Marine Station were first on the scene, along with the U.S. Coast Guard. “We originally responded to a call that came out as an unoccupied vessel. The details on what happened are under investigation,” said Trooper Charles Marchan. “But we have one confirmed fatality.” Authorities spread out across the north end beach to conduct an investigation.
The boat washed ashore at Seacliff Road. During the preliminary investigation, troopers determined that a single vessel accident resulted in fatal injuries to a 59-year-old man and injuries to a 73-year-old man, who was taken to an area hospital. No further details were immediately released about the men, including their names or hometown. “The case is an active and open investigation at this time,” Marchan said. Ocean City fire and beach patrol personnel and Longport beach and fire officials were also notified and on scene. The story is developing and will have updates as they become available. Teams from police, Coast Guard, fire and beach patrols respond to the scene.
