I think it’s safe to say that we are having a wonderful autumn “shoulder season” so far here in Sea Isle City, because the weather has been fantastic and our after-Labor Day events have been very well-attended. If you were able to go to this year’s Fall Family Festival on September 14 and 15, you know exactly what I mean.
With a bright sun in the sky and a mild breeze cooling the air, countless people enjoyed the festival’s vendors market along the Promenade, food court, and free amusement rides at Excursion Park on Saturday; and folks also enjoyed the bluegrass sounds of The Snake Brothers on Sunday, which was accompanied by the festival’s free historical trolley tours and antique auto show.
It really was a great weekend.
Once this year’s Fall Family Festival was officially “in the books,” the weather continued to be ideal throughout last week and this past weekend – which was great news for our friends at the Cape May County American Legion, who hosted their annual POW-MIA Recognition Day Ceremony on Friday at Veterans Park.
I am very grateful that the members of the American Legion once again brought their ceremony to Sea Isle City, because it’s a fine way to continually raise awareness for our POWs of the past and our many military members who are considered missing to this day. Thank you, Cape May County American Legion!
In addition to the popular autumn festivals and other special gatherings that are taking place in Sea Isle City during this time of year, we also have several other events that are worth mentioning.
For example, there is another “Coffee With Cops” meet-and-greet planned with the Sea Isle City Police Department on Friday, September 27, at Red, White and Brew Coffee Shop, located on Landis Avenue at 36th Street.
So, please stop by between 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. to speak with our local police officers, ask them any questions you may have, and enjoy some delicious coffee and refreshments with our friends at Red, White and Brew.
As you are probably aware, we take flooding very seriously here in Sea Isle City. To help us keep up with FEMA flood standards and maintain our flood insurance discounts with FEMA’s CRS Program, we formed a Floodplain Management Planning Committee, which is led by City Solicitor Paul Baldini and Floodplain Manager Neil Byrne.
The committee will be hosting public meetings in Council Chambers at City Hall later this year on Tuesday, October 22, and Tuesday, December 10, at 9:00 a.m. on both days.
During the meetings, we hope to share suggestions and gather input from the public so we can continue to move forward as one community and become as flood-resilient as possible.

Please be aware that as of October 1 there will be changes to the County’s recycling standards, and therefore we will no longer be able to include shredded paper and certain rigid plastics with our recyclables moving forward.

This week’s “Shout Out” goes to all of the members of the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol from past and present. The summer of 2019 marked the SICBP’s 100th anniversary – and we could not be more proud of all of our lifeguards.
My thanks go to all of the men and women who have kept and continue to keep our shoreline safe for beachgoers.
