Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland and Chief of County Detectives Paul S. Skill warn the residents of Cape May County to be cautious with suspicious or unfamiliar looking candy and other edible items during the Halloween season.
On Friday, Oct. 25, a bag of suspected heroin was found in a child’s bag of candy that was collected from a Trunk or Treat event held in the Rio Grande Section of Middle Township. According to Sutherland, this was one isolated incident but the laboratory analysis indicated the substance inside the bag tested positive for heroin.
Sutherland and Skill urge the public to always check the Halloween candy children bring home and to be cautious of any suspicious looking or unfamiliar packaging and baggies.
