Knights of Columbus to Recognize Community Leaders

Members of St. Joseph’s Church’s chapter of the Knights of Columbus are involved in many activities, such as this light moment at the recent Columbus Day parade.

By TIM KELLY Community is one of the things that makes Sea Isle City a unique town. A strong community doesn’t happen without the time, passion and commitment of some of its most dedicated members. Some of those community leaders, whose efforts often go unrecognized, will soon have a well-deserved moment in the sun. Madonna Maria Council No. 3560 of the Knights of Columbus in Sea Isle City has announced a Community Awards Ceremony to provide that recognition. The event has been set for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at the St. Joseph Parish Auditorium, 44th Street and Central Avenue in Sea Isle City.  All are welcome to attend, to show their support for some of the most outstanding and dedicated members of Sea Isle’s community. Refreshments will be served at the event. For more information, please contact Madonna Maria Council Grand Knight Ed McFadden at 609-486-6532. The Awards include:
  • Senior Citizen Award
  • The “Shield” Award to go to a local first responder
  • Educator of the Year Award
  • Family of the Year Award
  • Citizen of the Year Award
  • Catholic Student of the Year Award
The Council welcomes new members. According to the organization’s website, membership is open to practicing Catholic men 18 and older.  Membership is comprised of “men from all walks of life who wish to be part of a united organization…(practicing) charity, fraternity, patriotism…” according to a statement on the website. “Members of our Council are heavily involved in activities year round. Programs include the annual Spelling Bee competition, Foul Shooting contests, Food Pantry (weekly distribution of food stuffs to needy families), Fund Raising activities, supporting Catholic Education, working with the elderly residents at Crest Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation facility,” the website added. We tried to find out the names of the recipients, however event organizers could not be reached in time for this article. In trying to do so, Sea Isle News was told that information will be revealed at the ceremony itself, and the secrecy is part of the interest and buzz surrounding what could become an annual event. Fair enough. When the information is learned, we will pass it along.  In the meantime, the K of C hopes the rest of the community will make plans to attend what promises to be a very special evening to honor leaders of a very special community. The Annual Columbus Day Parade is just one of the community events the Madonna Maria Council Knights of Columbus is heavily involved with. The organization will recognize invested community members on Thursday, October 24.
