The milder days of springtime are finally upon us, and signs of the season are noticeable everywhere you turn.
People are re-opening their summer homes, migrating birds are returning to our region, flowers are blooming, and trees are sprouting new leaves – all in harmony with the nice weather we have been experiencing.
To officially welcome the spring and highlight the importance of planting new trees, Sea Isle City’s Environmental Commission, Garden Club and Historical Society co-hosted their annual Arbor Day Celebration on April 26 at the Community Lodge.
One focus of this year’s Arbor Day gathering was the new Trident Maple trees that the City recently planted along JFK Boulevard – which people seem to thoroughly enjoy. I would like to thank all of the individuals who hosted this year’s Arbor Day event and express my gratitude for their ongoing efforts to educate the public and promote a healthy environment.
Thank you all!
For many of us, spring is also the time to clean out our closets, attics and garages. To help people easily find “new homes” for their “old stuff,” the Sea Isle City Chamber of Commerce & Revitalization will host their annual City-Wide Yard Sale on Saturday, May 11, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. No fee is required to take part in the Yard Sale, and everyone is welcome to sell their unwanted items during this event. To learn which properties are participating, go to www.seaislechamber.com – or simply drive around town and look for the many homes that will have items for sale on their driveways and front yards.
On Monday, May 13, the New Jersey Coastal Coalition will host a press conference here in Sea Isle City to officially unveil their new Flood Web Cam on Central Avenue. The Coastal Coalition is a non-profit organization comprised of New Jersey waterfront communities (of which Sea Isle City is one) that first began meeting shortly after Super Storm Sandy.
The Coalition’s mission is “to build more resilient communities at the Jersey Shore by developing policies and practices that will anticipate future concerns and to create solutions to be shared by all participants.”
To learn more about the NJ Coastal Coalition and the good work they do – and to view their new web cam – go to

Looking further afield, please join us for Community Day on Saturday, May 18. Community Day will begin with a City Council meeting at 9 a.m. in Council Chambers, followed by a variety of other events taking place at the former public school building on Park Road from 10 a.m. to noon, including free document shredding courtesy of First Bank of Sea Isle City and a Municipal Bicycle Auction.
Those attending Community Day will have the opportunity to speak with City officials and representatives from local civic organizations; and there will also be face painting, free giveaways and an award presentation, during which local community volunteers will be honored.
To make Community Day even more special, we have teamed-up with the Sea Isle City Garden Club, who will be hosting their annual Flower Sale at the public school on Saturday and Sunday that same weekend.
So, don’t miss the opportunity to get better acquainted with your neighbors, beatify your gardens, and learn all about what’s happening in Sea Isle City on Community Day!
This week’s “Shout Out” goes to Lily Capone, a 12-year-old Sea Isle City resident who is considered one of the best horseback riders in her age group by the Interscholastic Equestrian Association.
On April 26, Lily competed in the I.E.A.’s Hunt Seat National Finals in Harrisburg; where she finished in fourth place in her division.
Obviously, this is quite an impressive accomplishment for Lily, and we could not be more proud of her! Congratulations Lily Capone!
Smile … You’re in Sea Isle!
