Mayor's Message: March 14

  • News
With the Vernal Equinox rapidly approaching, signs of spring are reappearing all around us. Temperatures are gradually increasing, people are emerging from their homes and taking walks along the Promenade, and last weekend we turned our clocks forward one hour to coincide with the start of Daylight Savings Time. As you are likely aware, when we “Spring Forward” each year we are also reminded to change the batteries in our smoke detectors. With that in mind, on March 9 Sea Isle City’s Volunteer Fire Department joined forces with Gardner Hardware in Ocean View to distribute vouchers for free smoke detector batteries to Sea Isle City’s residents and property owners. Additionally, our firefighters also offered to help residents who may not be able to physically change their smoke detector batteries themselves. My thanks go to all of our firefighters for helping keep us safe throughout the year and also to the generous folks at Gardner Hardware for being such wonderful community partners.  Last week, Sea Isle City’s 2019 Visitors Guide was delivered to all local property owners. This year’s edition, which has two charming youngsters on the cover, is once again filled with valuable information about Sea Isle City, including our exciting entertainment line-up, important details about our beaches, a handy fold-out map and much more.
If you need an extra copy of our 2019 Visitors Guide, which was created and distributed by the City’s Tourism Office, they are readily available at the Welcome Center, City Hall and other locations around town.  Looking ahead, St. Patrick’s Day is this weekend. As is our tradition, my family and I will be hosting Sea Isle City’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and celebration on Saturday, March 16, at 3:30 p.m. along Landis Avenue, 83rd to 63rd Street. We will also be hosting a “Best Dressed Irish Contest” on Saturday at 2 p.m., after which all of the event’s contestants will be invited to appear in this year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade. So, I hope you and your family will be in town this weekend to join the fun and celebrate Sea Isle’s rich Irish history. Later this month, the public is invited to attend a special fundraiser for Volunteers in Medicine of South Jersey on Saturday, March 23, at KIX-McNutley’s. This event will raise money for VIM’s two free healthcare clinics, which offer much-needed medical assistance to those without health benefits and the working poor. So, if you are in town on March 23, please join me and the numerous Sea Isle City residents who continue to donate their time and talents to this worthy cause. Smile …You’re in Sea Isle!
