Snow, Cold Weather Delay Paving on Sea Isle Road Project

  • News
Paving for the newly rebuilt section of Sea Isle Boulevard has been postponed from Tuesday until Friday, depending on weather conditions, Cape May County announced. Paving was pushed back due to delays associated with the winter storm on Sunday. The remnants of the snow and ice coupled with cold overnight temperatures over the next four nights do not allow for acceptable paving conditions, the county said in a press release Monday. The next possible paving window is on Friday morning, when the contractor will attempt to complete the base paving. Once the paving operation begins, it will proceed continuously on Friday through Friday night, and into Saturday morning.
The paving schedule is totally weather dependent. A final determination on whether paving will occur on Friday will be made on Thursday afternoon. Sea Isle Boulevard is being elevated by 4.5 feet to protect motorists from flooding. The first half of the new roadway was completed last year. The remaining part of the $12.7 million project will open to traffic after the paving is completed. The road is being elevated along a 1.7-mile stretch from Exit 17 of the Garden State Parkway to the bridge entering Sea Isle City. The boulevard serves as the main artery into Sea Isle.  The newly rebuilt section of Sea Isle Boulevard, shown here covered with snow, is 4.5 feet higher to protect motorists from flooding.
