Mayor’s Message: Dec. 5

  • News
I hope you were in Sea Isle City over Thanksgiving weekend and were able to attend our annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at Excursion Park – which is my pleasure to host each year. Our 2019 Tree Lighting was our largest to date, and it was highlighted by singing elves, photos with famous Ice Princesses, and other holiday enjoyment. My thanks go to everyone who helped make our Tree Lighting Ceremony a success, including the young men from Boy Scout Troop 76, who manned a snack concession stand that satisfied many appetites that night, and the members of the Sea Isle City Taxpayers Association, who distributed complimentary chocolate chip cookies and cocoa that warmed everyone’s spirits. Thank you all! Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, the 2019 Holiday Season is in full swing here in Sea Isle City – and we have many events on the way that will help “make the season bright.” From our annual House Lighting Contest and Santa’s Calling Program to the Historical Society’s Holiday Open House and the VFW’s annual Brunch with Santa, there are many ways to enjoy the season here in “the Capital of Cape May County.” So, be sure to check-out the “Holiday Events” section in this newsletter for more details about local activities that are taking place in the weeks ahead. Another yearly event that I am proud to mention is our 27th Annual Mayor’s Holiday Toy and Food Drive, which is currently underway. We are now collecting donations of non-perishable food items, gift cards, and, of course, toys – all of which will be distributed to families in need later this month. Please help us as we help others make the most of the holiday season – and make a donation to our annual drive! As a reminder, Sea Isle City’s Floodplain Management Committee will host a public meeting on Dec. 10 at 9 a.m. on the third floor of City Hall, where residents, property owners and local members of the business community are invited to share their thoughts and give feedback regarding Sea Isle City’s Floodplain Management efforts. If you are not able to attend the meeting on December 10, you can always address questions to Neil Byrne, Sea Isle City Floodplain Manager, at [email protected]. We have several “Shout Outs” this week. The first is for Rocco Santarcangelo, who is one of the hardest working people in Sea Isle City. In addition to being a community volunteer who donates his time at a nearby food bank and in other worthwhile ways, Rocco is also Santa’s “number one helper” who ensures that the holiday spirit is alive and well in Sea Isle City each year. Thank you, Rocco! The next Shout Outs are for Airmen Rosario LaRosa, who is a Sea Isle City native, and Nikolas Chunglo, who is from California. Both of these gentlemen are currently stationed at the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville Florida, and I had the opportunity to speak with them on Thanksgiving Day. We wish each Airman all the best and thank them for their service. Smile…You’re in Sea Isle! Mayor Leonard C. Desiderio
