Election Day, Time to Vote

By Maddy Vitale On Tuesday, voters will go to the polls to choose representatives to the U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders and Sea Isle City Board of Education. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. In the U.S. Senate election in New Jersey, incumbent Democrat Bob Menendez is being challenged by Republican Bob Hugin in a hotly contested race. State Sen. Jeff Van Drew, a Democrat from Cape May County, is running against Republican congressional candidate Seth Grossman, a former Atlantic County freeholder. The candidates are vying for a seat that will become vacant with the retirement of Rep. Frank LoBiondo, a moderate Republican who has represented the 2nd Congressional District since 1995
. The 2nd Congressional District represents parts of South Jersey, including Cape May County and Atlantic County. In another race, Cape May County Freeholder Leonard Desiderio, a Republican who is also Sea Isle’s mayor, is seeking his sixth term on the freeholder board. His Democratic challenger is Jeremiah Schenerman. Incumbent Patricia Halfpenny is running unopposed for the lone open seat on the Sea Isle Board of Education.
