Mayor's Message:

  • News
Earlier today, I was honored to speak at a Law Enforcement Memorial Day Ceremony at the Public Safety Training Center in Crest Haven, where the County kicked-off National Police Week. I was very happy to support our police officers during that special event, and I ask everyone who reads this message to take the time to thank a law enforcement official for their service. On April 30, Chief Tom McQuillen and other officers from the Sea Isle City Police Department hosted an event called “Coffee With A COP” at Mrs. Brizzle’s Buns and Deli.  During that two-hour meet-and-greet session, members of the public stopped-by for coffee and refreshments – and to chat with our officers about public safety issues.  It was a very well-attended gathering, and I commend the SICPD for hosting such a successful community outreach. I recently toured Sea Isle’s entire shoreline, and I am happy to report that our beaches are in very good condition. With that in mind, I predict that we will have another excellent summer on the sand.  However, before the summer season arrives, we have numerous events on our spring calendar that are worth mentioning, including this weekend’s City-Wide Yard Sale on Saturday, May 12. One week later, the City’s annual Community Day Celebration takes place on Saturday, May 19, at the Community Lodge, where there will be free document shredding, a municipal Bicycle Auction and other activities. Also, at 12 noon on Community Day, we will have a formal swearing-in ceremony for Chief McQuillen so anyone who was not present when the Chief was initially sworn-in back on March 27 can meet him and ask him questions. The Sea Isle City Garden Club will host their annual Flower Sale at Dealy Field on Saturday and Sunday, May 19 and 20 – an event that will raise funds for the Garden Club’s charitable efforts and help beautify our community!  There are also other events happening in Sea Isle City between now and Memorial Day, so please go to our visitor’s website, www.VISITSICNJ.com
, for a complete list of events and activities. With the warm weather rapidly approaching, I would like to remind everyone about the importance of bicycle safety. Please remember that bikes are to follow the same rules of the road as motor vehicles; therefore, bicyclists must stop at all stop signs, drive on the right side of the road (single file) and yield to pedestrians. And, don’t forget to wear a helmet for safety-sake!  For additional pointers, please pick-up a free bicycle safety brochure at the Sea Isle City Welcome Center and other locations around town – and think “Safety first” whenever you are on two-wheels. I have two “Shout Outs” this week.  The first goes to local homeowners Joann and Larry Kovatch, who recently told me that they love Sea Isle City and they enjoy reading this E-Newsletter!  Thank you for reaching out to me, Joann and Larry!  Our next “Shout Out” goes to Jay Dilworth, from Sea Isle City’s Construction Office, who was recently named the New Jersey Building Officials Association’s 2018 Building Inspector of the Year. Congratulations Jay, and thank you for all of your hard work! (BTW, this makes two years in a row that an employee from Sea Isle’s Construction Office was named Building Inspector of the Year…Neil Byrne received that same honor in 2017). The painting contractors have begun adding the new lettering to Sea Isle’s 39th Street water tower.  When completed, the tower will have a new graphic that I think will put a big smile on your face as you cross the Sea Isle Bridge on your way into town!  What will it be? –You’ll have to wait and see! Smile…You’re in Sea Isle! Mayor Leonard C. Desiderio
