Notice: Expect Some Delays On Various County Roads And Bridges This Week

The week of June 4th is expected to be a busy week of various County construction projects throughout Cape May County. Motorists will be experiencing numerous orange construction signs and, unfortunately some delays on various County roads and bridges during the course of the week.  Assuming the weather cooperates, the anticipated work is as follows: Corsons Tavern Road (CR628) in Dennis Township:  Starting on Monday June 4th, Arawak Paving Company, Inc., Hammonton, NJ, will begin paving operation on Corsons Tavern Road from just north of Gracetown Road to Kings Highway in the South Seaville section of Dennis Township.  The roadway will be closed to through traffic during working hours, however local residents will be able to access their properties. Woodbine-Ocean View Road (CR550) in Dennis Township: RTW Construction, Inc., Southampton, NJ, will be continuing on Monday June 4th with the construction of drainage improvements on Woodbine-Ocean View Road in the vicinity of the Corsons Tavern Road intersection. Bayshore Road (CR603) in the Villas:  Starting around 4:00pm on Monday June 4th, South State, Inc., Bridgeton, NJ, will begin installing the surface course on Bayshore Road from Wilde Avenue to Weber Avenue in the Villas section of Lower Township.  The initial work will consist of removing the asphalt pavement for a short length of the streets that intersection Bayshore Road and will require the northbound lane to be closed.  Northbound traffic on Bayshore Road will be detoured at Greenwood Avenue, to Woolson Road, cross Fulling Mill Road to Franklin Avenue, to Weber Avenue and then back to Bayshore Road.  Around 7:00pm, both lanes on Bayshore Road will close and the placement of the surface course will be begin. Southbound traffic will be detoured to Weber Avenue, to Main Street, to Yuma Avenue, to Wilde Avenue and then back to Bayshore Road.  The paving operation is expected to be completed by 7am Tuesday morning. West Avenue (CR619) in Ocean City:  On Tuesday June 5^th, Landberg Construction, LLC will begin installing drainage improvements at the intersection of 41^st Street and West Avenue in ocean City to address stormwater ponding.  The work will consist of installing twin 18” diameter ductile iron pipes under West Avenue to connect the east catch basins to the west catch basins.  The upgrades will increase the capacity of the existing drainage system and will augment the recently completed City drainage improvements along 41^st Street.  Due to the nature of the work and the high water table, it is necessary to dewater the crossing prior to, and during the pipe installation.  This permits a safer construction operation and increase the overall speed in completing the work.  The dewatering activity will result in the installation of well points and piping across West Avenue.  This dewatering piping requires traffic be detoured from West Avenue around the construction zone.  Traffic heading north on West Avenue will be detoured at 42^nd Street to Asbury Avenue to 40^th Street back to West Avenue.  Traffic heading south on West Avenue will be detoured at 40^th Street to Asbury Avenue to 42 ^nd Street back to West Avenue.  Local traffic between 40^th to 42^nd Streets will always have access to their residences, although they will not be able to cross over 41^st Street during the construction activity.  The detour will be in place from Tuesday June 5^th until the construction is completed on Friday June 8^th. Townsends Inlet Bridge in Avalon and Sea Isle City:  Thomas Barry Marine Construction, Inc., South Dennis, NJ will be installing steel plates on the movable span of the Townsends Inlet Bridge during the day on Tuesday June 5th.  The bridge will be reduced to one lane on the bridge and two-way traffic will be controlled by flaggers.  There will also some periodic closure of the bridge of up to 15 minutes to perform some of the work.  The work is expected to be completed in one day. Avalon Boulevard over Ingrams Thorofare in Avalon Manor:  A detailed inspection of this bridge for an upcoming bridge deck rehabilitation program is expected to begin on Tuesday June 5th.  The inspection will be performed from 7:30am to 2:30pm each day and is expected to run through Friday June 8th. The inspection will require one lane closed and two-way traffic maintained through the use of flaggers in the remaining open lane. Fulling Mill Road (CR654) between Villas and Rio Grande:  Starting around 7:00pm Tuesday night June 5^th, South State, Inc., Bridgeton, NJ, will begin paving from 1,500 feet east of Garfield Avenue and proceed eastward toward Route 47.  Eastbound traffic on Fulling Mill Road will be maintained during the paving operations.  However, traffic intending to travel westbound on Fulling Mill Road will be detoured.  Motorist travelling south on Route 47 intending to access Fulling Mill Road will be detoured onto Bayshore Road (CR603) in Green Creek.  Motorist travelling north along Route 47 intending to access Fulling Mill Road will be detoured at Railroad Avenue (CR626) to Breakwater Road (CR613) to Fishing Creek Road (CR639) to Bayshore Road.  The paving is expected to be completed on this portion of Fulling Mill Road by 7am Wednesday morning, however will only have temporary pavement markers delineating the centerline of the road. Roosevelt Boulevard (CR623) in Marmora:  South State, Inc., Bridgeton, NJ, paving operations are expected to begin around 9:00pm Wednesday June 6 on Roosevelt Boulevard from US Route 9 to the Garden State Parkway in the Marmora section of Upper Township and is expected to take two (2) nights to complete.  During construction operations, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction.  Work is to be completed by 5am each morning. All of the construction is subject to change and inclement weather will greatly impact the timing of the construction. Motorists are advised, if they can, to avoid the work areas during the time construction is anticipated to be occurring, and if they cannot avoid the work areas, to use caution when traveling through the construction zone.
