Mayor's Message: January 19

Mayor Leonard Desiderio

I recently had the pleasure of attending two Sea Isle City Taxpayer Association (SICTA) meetings, during which we discussed a number of ideas to continually move Sea Isle City in the right direction. One way the members of SICTA and I hope to see us grow as a community is to improve bicycle safety awareness. With that in mind, I am working with representatives from the Sea Isle City Police Department to educate the public about the importance of bicycle safety. We plan to achieve this goal by distributing a large number of safety brochures at local real estate offices, bike rental shops and at the Welcome Center.  We will also be sharing information about bicycle safety in other ways as we implement this important initiative – so get ready for an enjoyable and safe year on your bike! Even though it is not the most popular month to be at the shore, January is a great time to be in Sea Isle City because our beaches offer plenty of privacy, many of our restaurants are open for business, and, now that the holiday rush is over, everyone is enjoying the relaxed atmosphere you find during winter by the sea. And speaking of the holiday rush, I am happy to report that we received many compliments from residents and visitors who were impressed with the City’s colorful holiday decorations and the many events that took place throughout the recent holiday season. So, if you were not able to be with us during the 2017 holidays, I encourage you to mark your calendars now and plan to be here to celebrate the holidays in Sea Isle City in 2018! Even though January is a “relaxed” month for many folks, it is a very busy month for Sea Isle’s municipal employees, who are hard at work to make 2018 another memorable year.  In the months ahead, our City staff will continually ensure that our facilities are in tip-top shape prior to the arrival of the warm weather. They will also plan and fine-tune a variety of popular recreation events and activities – including fitness classes, summer athletic clinics, and day-camps.  The year ahead will also feature city-sponsored festivals, parades and our weekly summer events at the Band Shell, including Family Dance Parties, Movies Under the Stars, and our popular Saturday Night Concerts.  Spoiler Alert: Our 2018 Concert Series will once again feature a variety of tribute bands that will knock your socks off – including a performance that will honor The King, Elvis Presley.  As always, the best way to learn about events and activities taking place in Sea Isle City is by going to www.VisitSICNJ.com.  If you wish to personally speak with a City representative about upcoming events, you can phone Sea Isle’s Tourism Office at
609-263-8687 or our Recreation Office at 609-263-0050. This week’s “Shout Out” goes to all of our nation’s veterans.  As I have said in the past, here in Sea Isle City we don’t simply honor our military veterans on Veterans Day, we honor them 365 days a year. Thank you all for your service! Smile…You’re in Sea Isle! Mayor Leonard C. Desiderio
