Our Goal.
Our goal is to raise funds to send street children in Africa to school. And we plan on doing that through our efforts of running a Marathon in Tanzania, Africa, the fourth leg of our journey towards running a marathon on each continent. The day after completing the marathon, we will ascend to the highest point of Africa -- Mount Kilimanjaro.
We will be travelling to Tanzania this March for the adventure of a lifetime! Starting in Moshi, Tanzania, we are participating in the Kilimanjaro Marathon. We will be challenged with a marathon unlike any we have ever done before. Running in the presence of Africa’s highest mountain and just 232 miles from the Equator, we will be baking in the African sun. This challenge was taken to another level when we decided to “make the most of our trip” and climb Mt Kilimanjaro after finishing the marathon. Crazy, right? With the Uhuru peak standing at 19,341 feet, we will attempt to make it to the top and celebrate our real goal - bringing awareness to an outstanding non-profit - CROSO.
The Child Restoration Outreach Support Organization (CROSO) provides post-secondary education scholarships to former street children in Uganda. You may ask, why does this matter to two Americans going to Tanzania? We want to make this trip something more than our adventure. Many amazing people have entered our lives and supported us along our journey through Saint Joseph’s, Western Michigan, Jefferson and now Penn. We are hoping to raise enough funds to provide one scholar with a full year scholarship to the school of their choice. The one year scholarship of $2,500 includes all costs for the student - from tuition and books to laptop and transportation fees. Furthermore, each student has a CROSO liaison who provides guidance and encouragement as they navigate the waters of college education. Through this scholarship, we hope to give one scholar the support needed to pursue his/her hopes and dreams.
CROSO has 20 current and 19 graduated scholars that are challenging themselves to be better for Uganda’s future. CROSO is near and dear to our hearts as my sister-in-law, Molly MacCready, founded the non-profit in 2007. Please see
