What to Do When the Sprinkles Start on the Beach

  • News
It’s Memorial Day weekend in Sea Isle and that means the fun doesn’t stop just because some rain is falling on the beach. Thousands of visitors didn’t travel here to become shrinking violets when water is added to the equation. In Sea Isle, the taverns and restaurants fill up when the beaches empty. Pizza and hoagie shop phones start ringing off the hook and house parties break out like a stressed teenager. On Saturday, the weather began beautifully and then clouded up and eventually produced on again-off again sprinkles. All that meant was the fun-seekers got a little creative and kept the good times rolling. Our Sea Isle News photographer was no different, having a good time walking around town and documenting the scene: From left to right: Jerry Immordino, Diane Immordino, John Micharski (sitting on cooler), Alyssa Poveromo, Matthew Poveromo (red, white, blue) bathing suit, Karin Poveromo, MaryBeth Micharski, George Micharski, and Marc Poveromo. All from Mercer County, NJ. Immordino's-from Ewing township; Poveromo's from Lawrenceville, and Micharski's from Hamilton, NJ From Delaware County, PA we have Bill Dougherty, Nicole Farthing, Nick Mattia, Stephanie Richmond, Brian McDonald, Vince Carnevale, Eric Shields So, where did the people go that left the beach?  We set out to find out.  A short walk down Landis Avenue we noticed lines to get into the Ocean Drive and the Sandbar, so we decided to investigate. Outside at the Sandbar. No one seemed to notice the rain. Inside at the Ocean Drive it was packed and rocking.
Kix McNutley's had sports on the TV and the bar was full of happy patrons. The grill was packed as well. OK, so now know what the adults did, but where did the kids go?  That answer was not hard to find out either.  It appears that rain does not effect the miniature golf business as much as most would think.  The Pirate Island Adventure course was packing them in. Pirate Island - Waterfalls and Palm Trees.4 This appears to be a water friendly adventure. At the boardwalk you could hear a mild roar coming from the "Boardwalk Casino".  Inside we found kids young and old trying the best at games of skill and chance. The cranes and games of chance seemed the most popular. When it comes to prizes to win, they have the coolest. Do you have a favorite place to spend a rainy day at the beach?
