At 6:00 p.m. on July 10, Sea Isle City Historical Society President Michael McHale will host a special event titled “The History of Sea Isle City” inside the Sea Isle City branch of the Cape May County Library, located at 4800 Central Avenue. Held in cooperation with the Cape May County Library System, this free, fact-filled presentation will be open to the public – all are welcome to attend.
During the one-hour presentation on July 10, Mr. McHale will take audience members back in time – ranging from the days when Ludlam Island (home of Sea Isle City and Strathmere) was the Leni Lenape Indian’s “Happy Hunting Grounds,” thru the period when the island served as a whale harvesting site for the Ludlam Family, to the development of Sea Isle City by founder Charles K. Landis. “Why Charles Landis was arrested and tried for murder” will be among the many interesting bits of history shared during the presentation.
Michael McHale is a retired school teacher, as well as a former Sea Isle City Mayor, Commissioner and City Councilman. He has vacationed in Sea Isle City since 1950, and then he made Sea Isle his permanent year-round residence in 1976. Today, Mr. McHale is considered one of the community’s most knowledge and erudite historians.
