This summer marks the 30th year that Sea Isle City’s Beachcomber Guides will offer their much-loved beach tours. The one-hour encounters on the sand, which delight and educate people of all ages, are led by dedicated volunteers who take the beach – and environmental conservation – very seriously. Each tour begins with a brief presentation that includes a display of sea shells and other interesting artifacts – and the role each item plays in the local eco-system. Next, tour-takers are invited to independently comb the beach in search of shells, sea glass and other items that will be identified by the beachcomber guide near the end of the tour. Afterwards, everyone takes “The Beachcomber Pledge” to protect the beaches and preserve the environment. “To date, nearly 50,000 people have taken our tours,” said Beachcomber Co-Chairperson Marianne Snyder.  “Beachcomber Tours definitely appeal to children because they are very hands-on; however adults also get a lot out of them. We receive a great deal of positive feedback from the adults who take the tours.” “It’s a terrific event for everyone because we have a lot of interesting information to share,” added Co-Chairperson Abby Powell. “We welcome families, groups, individuals and anyone who has a passion for the beach and aquatic life.” Beachcomber Tours take place (weather permitting) from June 27 to August 31 promptly at 10:00 a.m. each Tuesday on the 29th Street Beach (check-in on the Promenade at 29th
) and each Thursday on the 94th Street Beach (check-in under the Pavilion at Townsends Inlet Waterfront Park). The tours cost only $1.00 per person.  Each child who takes the tour receives a Sara the Turtle coloring book, a sand pail and a Beachcomber bracelet. Reservations are not needed – simply arrive in time to check-in and join one of the tour groups.
