Sea Isle City Beach Patrol's Annual 10-Mile Island Run Will Attract Over 1000 Athletes - August 12

  • Things To Do
The Sea Isle City Beach Patrol will host the 2017 Captain Bill Gallagher 10-Mile Island Run on Saturday, August 12, at 44th Street and the Beach. Individual runners as well as members of organizations and running clubs are invited to participate in this popular competition. The 10-Mile Island Run will begin at 5:30 p.m., rain or shine. Due to safety concerns, an electrical storm will necessitate cancelling the run.  Weather cancellations will be announced by 4:45 p.m. on the Beach Patrol's Facebook and Twitter accounts. The race takes place on a traffic-free, flat course.  Approximately 2.5-miles of the course is on Sea Isle’s paved Promenade (boardwalk) and the remaining distance of the course is on the beach.  Low tide occurs at 5:58 p.m. on August 12, which means participants will not be running on soft sand, but on hard packed sand similar to a dirt trail. Former Sea Isle City Beach Patrol Captain Bill Gallagher will sound the starting horn on August 12 during the 47th Annual Captain Bill Gallagher 10-Mile Island Run. The race, which was re-named in Captain Gallagher’s honor more than 25 years ago, attracts over 1000 athletes each year. Online pre-registration for individual runners is available until Wednesday, August 9, at 11:59 p.m. for $20.00. Race Day registration ($35.00) closes Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 4:30 p.m. Online pre-registration for Teams and Clubs is available until Wednesday, August 9, at 11:59 p.m. for $22.00 per runner.  Registration for Teams and Clubs on Race Day closes on Saturday, August 12, at 4:30 p.m. for $37 per runner. The number of runners allowed per team is unlimited.  All team members must complete their own registration form. Entry fees are non-refundable. Make checks payable to “Sea Isle City Beach Patrol.”  High quality event tee-shirts will be given to the first 1200 registrants.
Paul Matuszak, 30, of Philadelphia, won last year's  race for the second straight year, finishing in 57 minutes and 57 seconds. Compuscore Computer Services will provide “gun time” and “chip time” for each runner. Awards will be presented to the top male and female runners in numerous categories – including cash prizes to the first, second and third place male and female finishers.
