Dean Marcolongo Wins County GOP Committee Election for Surrogate Post

Dean Marcolongo bested a six-person field to win the Cape May County Surrogate’s office in a special election earlier this week. Marcolongo, an attorney with the Millville-based firm Nathan Van Embden & Dean Marcolongo garnered 48 votes among the County Republican Committee Special Convention voters to edge Heather Baldini who received 41 votes. The special vote was taken to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Susan Sheppard, who accepted an appointment as a Superior Court Judge. Sheppard had won re-election in November, so Marcolongo will serve out most of the 5-year unexpired term.

Other candidates in the election and their vote totals included Lauren Fogarty, 38; Antwan McClellan, 35; Carole Mattessich, 12; and Eugene Glembocki, 5. Marcolongo is a 1977 graduate of Wildwood Catholic High School and an 81 grad of Richard Stockton College (now University). He earned his Juris Doctor degree from Vermont University Law School in 1984. Marcolongo’s law practice includes the areas of zoning and planning, bankruptcy, collection, family law, and municipal court. He spent 10 years as municipal prosecutor in North Wildwood and Upper Township, and has served as a public defender in Deerfield Twp. And Franklin Twp. In Gloucester County. Married with a child and two stepchildren, Marcolongo is an active volunteer at the Atlantic City Rescue Mission and Resurrection Church.
