During the June 27 City Council meeting, Ordinance 1610, pertaining to Flood Plain Management, was introduced on First Reading and approved unanimously by Council. This Ordinance will have second reading and possible final adoption during the July 25 Council meeting. Once adopted by the City, Ordinance 1610 will help Sea Isle achieve a 30% discount on flood insurance premiums for qualified policy holders.
Also during the June 27 meeting, Ordinance 1611 was introduced. This ordinance appropriates $1,125,000 toward water and sewer infrastructure improvements throughout the City. Second reading for Ordinance 1611 will also take place on July 25.
On July 1, City Council held an Inauguration and Re-Organization Meeting in Council Chambers, where Girl Scout Troop 41012 led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance. During the July 1 meeting, incumbents Mary Tighe and Jack Gibson were sworn-in along with newly elected J. B. Feeley. Mary Tighe was then appointed President of City Council for the next 12 months. Congratulations Mary, Jack and J.B.!
Council would like to thank former Councilman John Divney for his ten years of Public Service. Councilman Divney retired from office last month, and so a resolution was approved honoring him on July 1. He was also presented with a plaque that listed just a few of his many accomplishments while on City Council.
Each of the Resolutions on the July 1 meeting was approved, including Resolution 121, which authorized an agreement clarifying the relationship and equipment use between the City of Sea Isle City and the Sea Isle Ambulance Corps.
Since summer is now in full swing, the members of City Council would like our visitors and residents to be safe. Drivers need to be mindful of pedestrians crossing at corners – and pedestrians need to be certain that drivers see them at the corners before crossing. As always, safety is important and everyone needs to be alert and respectful while navigating our busy streets.
The next Council meeting is July 25, 2017 at 10:00 am.
