By Maddy Vitale Harry is energetic, playful and acts like a teenager. Peaches, his litter mate, is a beauty who likes to curl up on your lap and snuggle. The 8-month-old littermates are inseparable, up-to-date on all their shots and were neutered/spayed. They would make a “purrfect” duo in any loving home, but can part ways for the right families. Then there is Fluffy. She is a beautiful 6-year-old, black and white cat, who just wants love. These are just a few of the felines who need forever homes and are in the care of S.O.S. Sea Isle Cats Inc., a nonprofit organization that focuses on trapping, neutering and releasing, as well as fostering and adopting out cats and sometimes even dogs, to good homes. “Our mission is to keep sick and stray cats off the streets of Sea Isle and find them good homes,” Stacy Jones, an S.O.S. Sea Isle Cats volunteer said Monday.  On Oct. 26 S.O.S. Sea Isle Cats volunteers met Harry and Peaches. “A family was having a difficult situation. We were supposed to foster Harry and Peaches for four weeks. When the family was unable to provide a suitable home for them, they became available for adoption,” Jones said. “They don’t have to go together. They are friendly, frisky and healthy,” Jones said. “We named Harry after Prince Harry for his red hair and Peaches after her peachy color patches of fur,” Jones said with a laugh. “Harry is a hoot and a half. He and Peaches are like active teenagers. Harry jumps up on people’s shoulders.”
Currently, the siblings are at The Crooked Tail Thrift Shop, 4208 Landis Ave., in Sea Isle City. The shop is open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. seven days a week. “We are always looking for people to help us in the shop or to come and socialize with the shop cats,” Jones said. Fluffy, a 19.5 pound cat who is working on her diet, is also up for adoption. (Courtesy S.O.S. Sea Isle Cats) As for Fluffy, Jones said she is confined to one room as she is on a diet. On Dec. 15 she tipped the scales at 19.5 pounds. Her vet wants her to get down to 11 pounds. “Let’s cheer her on,” Jones said. Anyone wishing to adopt Fluffy should keep her on a well-balanced, regulated diet. S.O.S. Sea Isle Cats requests a $60 donation per cat and as little as $25 for an older feline. All the animals are spayed/neutered and up-to-date on their shots. There is also a program for anyone interested with expertise in cats to become a long-term foster of an older or sickly cat. “We have an 18-year-old cat who was abused as a kitten and dumped later on. She is in foster care now and she is thriving,” Jones said. “She is a happy girl.” Anyone who is interested in adopting a cat can contact S.O.S. Sea Isle Cats at 609-972-5887 or visit the website www.Seaislecats.com.
