City Council's Message:

  • News
During the August 15 City Council meeting, Business Administrator George Savastano reported on Sea Isle’s city-wide Flood Mitigation Study.  During Phase I of that project, all of the city’s storm water structures and outfall systems will be mapped, and that information will be added to all existing data regarding recent piping system improvements. A complete final report of this study (with recommendations) will be available by the end of August 2018. That information will then be presented to the public with a plan to make the recommended improvements.  Last year’s Capital Plan included similar discussions and incorporated some funding for future pumping stations.  This year, Council will start to incorporate preliminary information from the Flood Mitigation Study into the Capital Plan in order to prepare for future flooding improvement projects. During the “Council Reports” portion of the August 15 meeting, Councilman Gibson led a discussion regarding ways to improve the views of the ocean from the Promenade without disturbing the dunes. The Business Administrator explained that there is currently a project being developed to expand the number of gazebos along the Promenade, and Councilman Gibson’s suggestion could be incorporated into that project. Each of the Resolutions on the August 15 Consent Agenda were approved, including Resolution 141, which authorized the award of a contract for $450,601 for much-needed external and structural improvements to the Public Works garage, located on JFK Boulevard near the bridge. During the “New Business” portion of the August 15 meeting, Councilman Feeley asked Council to consider creating an ordinance that would ban the intentional release of helium balloons and illuminated sky lanterns. Council agreed to discuss this request further and in the meantime will have the City Solicitor draft an ordinance for that purpose. Our next City Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, August 29 – we hope to see you there! Best regards, Council President Mary Tighe ([email protected]) Frank Edwardi ([email protected]
) J.B. Feeley ([email protected]) Jack Gibson ([email protected]) Bill Kehner ([email protected])
