Mayor's Message - August 3

  • News
Now that August has arrived, I would like to take the opportunity to give you a “summer update” of sorts. So far, in my humble opinion, I truly feel that 2017 is turning out to be one of our best years ever – for numerous reasons.  Not only have we had amazing weather (with the exception of the occasional summer rain storm, which is inevitable), but I have also encountered many wonderful people this summer, who have reminded me again and again why folks love to be in Sea Isle City. Factor in our many popular events, the countless people who have been enjoying our beaches and bays, and how our business community has once again put its best foot forward to make all of our visitors feel welcome – and it’s easy to see what a successful summer this is turning out to be. And speaking of successful…this year’s National Night Out festivities took place on Tuesday evening at Excursion Park, where hundreds of children and their families enjoyed free entertainment, food, games and other fun.  My thanks go to Captain Tom McQuillen for organizing this year’s National Night Out activities – and all of our police officers and community volunteers who made the night possible, including Casino Pizza / LaCosta Bar, Cammo Dog Hot Dogs, the Cape May County Prosecutors Office and Sheriff’s Department, Casa (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children), the Chamber of Commerce & Revitalization, Glancey Enterprises, The Ocean Drive Bar & Grill, The Springfield Inn, Town Watch/Town Pride, as well as Sea Isle City’s Ambulance Corps, Beach Patrol, Fire Department, Municipal Alliance Committee,  Public Works Department and Tourism Office. I would also like to thank the ladies from City Hall who manned our National Night Out Dunk Tank, which raised over $700 for my 2017 Holiday Toy and Food Drive. Just because August has arrived, don’t think that the fun is over in Sea Isle City!  We have many great events planned this month that will round out this summer in style, including the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol’s 10-Mile Island Run on Saturday, August 12. No matter if you are a competitive athlete or someone who simply enjoys witnessing “the thrill of victory,” you’ll enjoy the 10-Mile Island Run, which is always a sight to behold.  After all, how often do you get to see over 1000 people running along our Promenade and beaches at the same time? As a reminder, Sea Isle City’s Saturday Night Concerts Under the Stars take place through September 2 – and there is still an amazing line-up of tribute bands waiting to entertain you!  Plus, we have a variety of other weekly events that your family will enjoy throughout the remainder of the summer season – not to mention the Brian Deutsch Memorial Skate Contest at Dealy Field on August 6, a free Full Moon Yoga class on the JFK Boulevard Beach on August 7, the Sea Isle City Wiffleball Classic Autism Fundraiser at Dealy Field on August 12, an interesting “History of Sea Isle City Lighthouse” presentation at the Library on August 14, a Philadelphia Flyers Community Caravan Fan Engagement event at Dealy Field on August 14, and the 2017 Sunday-Funday Beer Fest on August 20.  Then, plan to be with us in September as the enjoyment (and wonderful weather) continues into the autumn months. As always, whenever you need event information, simply go to
www.VISITSICNJ.com, where you’ll find all the details you need to make the most of your time in Sea Isle City.  And, if you are looking for a more personal touch, stop by the Sea Isle City Welcome Center on JFK Boulevard to speak with a representative from the City’s Division of Tourism. This week’s “Shout Out” goes to Captain Renny Steele and the members of the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol for winning the Dutch Hoffman Memorial Lifeguard Race in Wildwood on Monday evening.  The SICBP is having an impressively victorious competitive year, and we are very proud of how they represent our community at the numerous lifeguard races that take place around the region – and how they perform on the sand each day here in Sea Isle. Smile…You’re in Sea Isle! Mayor Leonard C. Desiderio
