Mayor's Message:

Mayor Len Desiderio

This coming weekend will be jam-packed with events.  In fact, this weekend will serve as a “sign of things to come,” because the summer season will soon be here, and, as you are probably aware, summer weekends in Sea Isle City feature enjoyable events and activities that will please the entire family. In the meantime, this weekend you can lend a hand to Mother Nature, buy a delicious hoagie, shop for one-of-a-kind crafts, keep your family safe from the dangers of prescription drug abuse, and let the “girl” in you come out… Because April 22 was a rainy day, the Sea Isle City Environmental Commission postponed their annual Spring Beach Clean-Up until Saturday, April 29.  Volunteers are needed for this important event, so please come to JFK Boulevard and the Promenade starting at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday morning and show Mother Nature that you care by helping remove trash and debris from Sea Isle’s beaches and dunes. To learn more about the Beach Clean-Up, please phone 609-263-2081. Boy Scout Troop 76 will host two events this weekend, including an Arts & Crafts Fair on Saturday and Sunday in the former Public School building on Park Road, where vendors will sell a wide variety of handmade and specialty items. On Saturday, the Boy Scouts will also host their annual Hoagie Sale from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Sea Isle City Fire House (City Hall). I hope you can support our Scouts by attending one – or both – of these fundraisers. For more information, please phone
609-602-6396. Also on Saturday, the Sea Isle City Police Department will host a free Prescription Drug Disposal event from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on the first floor of the Police Department (City Hall).  I am sure the SICPD and my friends on Sea Isle’s Municipal Alliance Committee will agree that, thanks to the recent opiate epidemic, never was there a more important time to make sure all home medicine cabinets are secure and that all un-needed prescription drugs are properly destroyed. To learn more about Saturday’s Prescription Drug Disposal, phone 609-263-4311, ext 2302. This weekend is also a very special one for the members of Sea Isle City’s Chamber of Commerce and Revitalization.  From Friday thru Sunday, the Chamber will host their annual Spring Girls Weekend, during which shoppers, food-lovers and bargain-hunters will discover discounts and special offers at businesses throughout town. This is a weekend that no lady – or gentleman, for that matter – will want to miss, so come to Girls Weekend and take advantage of all the great deals! For additional details, phone 609-263-9090 or visit www.seaislechamber.com . Once again, I would like to thank everyone who generously donated to the Shriner’s Hospital Fundraiser that my family hosted earlier this year. During that event, we raised $14,030, which will go a long way to help children with a variety of medical problems. Thank you all for your support! This week’s “Shout Out” goes to the members of Sea Isle City’s Volunteer Fire Department, who are hosting their annual Fireman’s Dinner on Friday Night at Mildred’s Restaurant, where they will honor members who have reached “milestone” years with the fire department and also celebrate the good work they perform in our community. My thanks go to each of our brave firefighters, who are always there for us whenever the fire alarm goes off – morning, noon or night. Smile…You’re in Sea Isle! Mayor Leonard C. Desiderio
