Earlier today, I was happy to attend AARP Chapter 710’s monthly meeting in the Community Lodge, where Cape May County Surrogate Susan Sheppard, Esq. spoke to audience members about the role a Surrogate Judge plays in the community. Judge Sheppard also shared a wealth of other information that the members of Chapter 710 will no doubt be able to put to good use. While we are on the topic of Chapter 710, I would like to acknowledge all the good work that the members of AARP perform in our community. They are truly worthy of our respect and thanks – which is why they recently received a Joint Legislative Resolution from Senator Van Drew and Assemblymen Andrzejczak and Land (an honor that was well-deserved). As you probably already know, the Townsends Inlet Bridge, which connects Sea Isle City and Avalon, is closed to traffic while necessary repairs are being made to the bridge’s infrastructure. The work to repair the bridge is being performed, thanks to an emergency contract that was created by the County. I spoke with County Engineer Dale Foster earlier this week, who hopes to have the T.I. Bridge open prior to Memorial Day weekend (barring any unforeseen problems). Until then, we thank you for your patience.
Now that spring has arrived, the signs of the season are all around us. Daffodils are blooming, our beautiful white egrets are back in the marshes, and with each passing week more and more businesses are re-opening their doors and welcoming patrons. Another sure-sign that warmer weather is on the way is the Environmental Commission’s annual Spring Beach Clean-up, which is scheduled for Saturday, April 22, from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon. My thanks go to all of the Environmental Commission’s volunteers, who do a great job organizing and hosting the Beach Clean-Up. Special thanks also go to Mikes Seafood & Dock Restaurant for hosting a complimentary luncheon for the volunteers immediately after the Beach Clean-Up, and to Approach Clothing Company for donating tee-shirts for the volunteers.
This week’s “Shout-Out” goes to our nation’s veterans and each of the men and women who are bravely serving in America’s Armed Forces. Thank you all for your service!
Have a Joyous Easter and a very Happy Passover!
Smile…You’re in Sea Isle!
