Peyton Laricks, a CDH survivor, will cheer on participants during the 2016 Peyton's Promise 5K Run / 2K Walk in Sea Isle City on June 11.
In 2008, Peyton Laricks, of Sea Isle City, was born with a Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH), a serious birth defect that prevented her diaphragm from fully developing. CDH is a life threatening condition that results in an opening in the chest cavity, which allows abdominal organs to migrate from their normal positions. CDH also prevents proper lung growth.
Fortunately, when Peyton was born, she was able to receive the surgeries and intensive care needed to survive; and her family was finally able to take her home when she was 88 days old. Today, she is a happy and healthy little girl with a bright future.
Realizing how fortunate they were that their daughter survived CDH, Peyton’s parents, Dustin and Debbie Laricks, decided to host an annual fundraiser to raise awareness and money for CDH research. That’s how Peyton’s Promise began.
On Saturday, June 11, the 2016 Peyton’s Promise 5K Run / 2K Walk will take place on the Sea Isle City Promenade at 10:00 a.m. The cost to participate in the Run / Walk is $30 for adults and $15 for children ages 5 to 12 (kids under 5 are free). On-site registration begins at 9:00 a.m. on the day of the event on the Promenade at 43
rd Street. Tee shirts will be given to participants (while supplies last).
The Peyton’s Promise 5K Run is a certified, computerized chip-timed run. The 2K Walk is stroller friendly and ideal for people of all ages.
After the 5K, medals will be presented to the race’s top runners during a family-friendly post-race party at the Springfield Inn, 43
rd Street and the Promenade. The party will include music, socializing and food. There will also be raffles, featuring a wide variety of valuable prizes.
All net proceeds from the 2016 Peyton’s Promise 5K Run / 2K Walk will be donated to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for ongoing CDH Research. For additional information, phone
